Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the chief of the service.
• Engage in and attend various medical center committees and teams.
• Contribute to facility programs aimed at improving patient care services, including Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) teams, as assigned by the Chief of Medicine Service.
• Exhibit a strong commitment to high-quality customer service, meeting performance objectives set by the Medical Center.
• Comply with all information security and privacy protocols established by VHA and the Medical Center.
• Set and assess annual professional and personal goals; identify individual learning needs and participate in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, and self-directed learning; complete mandatory education annually.
• Oversee a team of 10 direct reports.
• Receive new cases one day every two weeks while on service.
• While teaching responsibilities are not mandatory, optional opportunities are available through our academic partner.
• Supervise ten of the current 107 lab staff; clinical privileges in autopsy, cytology, and surgical pathology are required.
• Manage three high-complexity labs located in Charlotte, Salisbury, and Kernersville, NC.
• Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., promoting a healthy work-life balance. All pathologists share on-call duties on a rotating basis (by phone).
• Histology services operate Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Qualifications:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen; non-citizens may be considered if qualified citizens are not available.
• Education: Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
• Licensure: Must hold an unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency: Completion of an accredited residency program in a core specialty.
• Board Certification: Must be board-certified or board-eligible in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum of three years of CLIA Lab Director experience in a high-complexity laboratory, including leadership and supervisory roles.
• Board certification in both Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology.

What We Offer:

• Competitive Salary: Ranges from $200,000 to $400,000.
• Recruitment/Relocation Incentive: A sign-on bonus may be available for highly qualified candidates.
• Pay Structure: Competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
• Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays, and up to 5 days for paid CME absence.
