Direct Counsel is seeking a Tax Associate to join a prestigious and growing Tax practice in Dallas. This opportunity is ideal for an attorney with a strong interest in real estate taxation and experience advising on sophisticated real estate transactions, including REIT-related matters.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax knowledge, excellent analytical and writing skills, and a desire to work on complex and innovative tax issues affecting real estate investors, developers, funds, and institutional clients.
Responsibilities- Advise clients on the tax aspects of commercial real estate transactions
- Counsel clients on REIT formation, operation, and compliance matters
- Support acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, and development transactions
- Analyze tax issues arising in real estate investment structures
- Conduct tax research and prepare sophisticated tax analyses and memoranda
- Draft and review transaction documents with tax-related provisions
- Collaborate with attorneys across real estate, private equity, finance, and corporate practices
- Develop creative solutions to complex and novel tax issues affecting real estate transactions
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Law school class years 2022 and above
- Strong understanding of tax law and tax research principles
- Experience with, or demonstrated interest in:
- Commercial real estate transactions
- Real estate investment structures
- REITs
- Real estate taxation
- Excellent legal research and analytical skills
- Outstanding writing and oral communication abilities
- Strong academic credentials
- Ability to think creatively and strategically about complex tax issues
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Salary range: $260,000 – $420,000
