Job Description and Duties
Under general direction of the Manager II, the Supervisor II serves as the Planning and Modal Programs' (PMP) Office Chief for Workforce Development and is responsible for overseeing statewide workforce development programs within the PMP Divisions
and District Planning offices. The Supervisor II plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of PMP staff responsible for statewide recruitment, training, professional development, workforce planning, and conference and meeting coordination. The
Supervisor II establishes program priorities, allocates resources, evaluates operational effectiveness, and provides strategic direction to ensure PMP workforce development programs support organizational goals and statewide workforce needs. The
Supervisor II provides leadership over PMP Division and District Planning Offices' recruitment strategies, talent sourcing, training and development programs, and initiatives designed to address workforce skill gaps, strengthens leadership capabilities, and
improves organizational effectiveness throughout PMP.

Working Conditions
Position located at 1120 N St Sacramento, Sacramento County.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Supervisor II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans’s evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee’s designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
Knowledgeable of the Department's mission, vision, goals, and objectives. Knowledge of the state and related federal laws, rules, re gulations, policies, and procedures. Exercise good writing skills; follow oral and written directions, be responsive to the needs of the public and employees of Caltrans and other agencies; analyze situations and take effective action using initiative, resourcefulness, and good judgment. Should have an understanding of computer applications, hardware and software, and be able to prepare and analyze comprehensive reports and make sound recommendations.
