Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Human Resources Management, HR Policy and Programs Directorate, Compensation, Compliance, Oversight, and Policy Branch, located in Washington, D.C. Responsibilities Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will allow you to utilize your expertise as a Lead project coordinator and senior advisor on various employment and workforce subject matter areas, where you will manage and execute projects and work assignments at various stages of the policy cycle to include formation, implementation and/or accountability and compliance. This position starts at a salary of $143,913.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $187,093.00 (GS-14, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. Typical Work assignments include: Leading the formulation, communication, implementation, training, and/or compliance efforts with respect to human capital policy in two (2) or more HR specialties such as compensation, classification, and other workforce and employment related areas. Providing authoritative guidance in HR policy planning, execution, and/or evaluation of regulatory compliance with laws, policies and procedures. Promoting HRM's effectiveness and efficiency to successfully meet CBP's overall vision, mission, strategy and priorities. Identifying ways in which Human Capital Policy can support CBP's strategy and goal. Participating with senior leaders on strategic analysis and planning. Developing, executing, and maintaining a viable, ongoing communications strategy regarding HR policies and regulations, project progress and results. Leading compliance reviews and audits to promote HR compliance and accountability. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing Human Resources (HR) policy consultation with managers, leaders or supervisors on specialties such as compensation and classification; and other workforce and employment related areas. Participating in various integrated teams, and activities and providing necessary input on HR laws, regulations, principles, procedures, or practices. Participating on various projects and groups to formulate and implement new HR policies. Leading surveys and audits to promote HR accountability and compliance. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/02/2026. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. Current and former federal employees may be required to serve or complete a probationary period.
