Nursing Station Clerk/NSC Trainee - Part Time Night Shift (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Position Summary Nursing Station Clerks 1 are assigned to either inpatient or outpatient units where they greet visitors, answer telephones, perform data entry, maintain daily and clinical logs, prepare and update patient charts and files, fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions, mail patient letters, and deliver supplies and records to an assigned unit. They provide general information to patients and families and serve as a contact person. Responsibilities Orient patient and/or family to unit, providing general information regarding the room, unit, and hospital and serve as a contact person to patients and families. Give information on patient condition within existing policies, and direct visitors to the appropriate locations. Process physicians' orders by recording written orders in charts, kardex, flag sheets, or directly into a computer file after review by a Registered Nurse; and fill out medication tickets and pharmacy requisitions. Receive new admissions. Prepare and maintain patient charts, daily log, and clinic log. Qualifications Eligible List Appointment: Must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Nursing Station Clerk 1. Provisional Appointment: If no eligible list with three or more candidates, a temporary provisional appointment may be considered. Must have one year of full‑time clerical, secretarial, or patient care experience in a health‑care setting, take the examination, and be reachable on the resulting eligible list. 55b/c Appointment: Eligible for 55b/c designation. Must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter. Section 70.1 Transfer: Must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title approved for transfer to Nursing Station Clerk 1. Pre‑Employment Requirements Pre‑employment physical examination and medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services. Electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references. 4‑panel drug screen. Regulatory requirements for pre‑employment screenings. Copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s). Salary $36,232 - $38,235 per year, pro-rated by part‑time hours. Salary Grade: SG7.
