2027 Formulation Sciences Intern (PhD)
AbbVie
A summer internship in formulation sciences within AbbVie's Product Development team, focused on investigating excipient compatibility and chemical stability in solid oral dosage forms. Interns will conduct analytical studies, evaluate degradation kinetics, and present findings to department leadership.
Responsibilities
- Investigate excipient degradation mechanisms using analytical techniques such as HPLC, titration, and colorimetrical methods
- Collaborate on LC/MS analysis to identify and characterize degradation products and leachable substances
- Evaluate degradation kinetics under varying temperature and relative humidity conditions
- Assess mitigation strategies involving formulation and process variables
- Summarize experimental results and present findings to project team and department leadership
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in PhD program in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline
- Must remain enrolled for at least one semester after internship completion
- Expected graduation between December 2027 and June 2028
- Strong attention to detail and laboratory safety practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in laboratory settings
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred: experience with HPLC, LC/MS, UV/Vis spectroscopy, or formulation science coursework
