Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.

Job Description Summary


The Senior Video Producer advances the university's brand, reputation, and storytelling efforts through exceptional visual content creation. Working within Strategic Marketing and Communications, this position serves as an experienced individual contributor responsible for producing high-impact video content that supports enrollment, advancement, public relations, marketing, executive communications, and institutional storytelling initiatives.

The Senior Video Producer independently leads complex productions from concept through final delivery through advanced cinematography, editing, motion graphics, and visual storytelling. This role requires strong editorial judgment, the ability to shape compelling narratives from interview-driven content, and the technical expertise to execute full-scale productions.

The position is in-person, five days a week at Chapman University's Orange campus and reports to the Associate Creative Director.

Responsibilities

Advanced Video Production and Storytelling
Works in a highly integrated, high-performing team environment to create high-quality video content that supports university-wide storytelling initiatives. Responsibilities include:

• Independently produce, shoot, and edit high-quality video content that advances the University's brand, reputation, enrollment goals, and institutional storytelling initiatives, serving audiences across all university departments.
• Lead all phases of assigned productions, including creative planning, storyline development, production logistics, filming, audio capture, lighting, editing, motion graphics, color correction, sound design, and final delivery.
• Develop narrative structures and storytelling approaches from interviews, source footage, creative briefs, and production materials.
• Create long-form and short-form stories optimized for different audiences and distribution channels, including social media, websites, digital campaigns, and presentations.
• Determine production approaches, visual treatments, interview strategies, and editorial techniques that best achieve project goals and elicit strong soundbites that are key messaging aligned.
• Independently manage complex productions from concept through delivery and maintain exceptional standards for visual quality, pacing, storytelling, technical execution, and audience engagement

Advanced Post-Production & Creative Execution Performs advanced post-production work and creative execution to ensure high-quality final deliverables across multiple channels and audiences. Responsibilities include:

• Perform advanced editing, color correction, audio mixing, motion graphics development, visual effects, and finishing for final delivery.
• Create visual treatments, graphics packages, title sequences, and other creative assets that enhance storytelling effectiveness.
• Apply strong editorial judgment when selecting footage, refining story structure, pacing content, and shaping final narratives.
• Deliver content in multiple formats, aspect ratios, and technical specifications for web, social, digital advertising, presentation, and broadcast environments.
• Efficiently implement feedback while maintaining creative integrity and production quality.
• Maintain consistency with university brand standards and visual storytelling principles.
• Collaborate with writers, designers, photographers, marketers, and communications professionals to create integrated storytelling experiences.
• Scout locations on and around our campuses and make recommendations for ideal interview and environmental shot locations, applying knowledge of visual storytelling and our university's sense of place.

Project Coordination & Asset Management

Supports efficient production operations and ensures continuity of video assets and workflows. Responsibilities include:

• Maintain organized project files, footage, metadata, and production assets according to departmental standards.
• Ensure proper storage, backup, and archival preparation of completed projects.
• Support efficient production workflows that facilitate collaboration across the creative team.
• Coordinate production logistics, schedules, equipment preparation, locations, and project resources for assigned productions.
• Ensure compliance with applicable copyright, licensing, release, and content usage requirements

Technical Expertise & Team Contribution
Proactively contributes to continuous improvement across video production efforts. Responsibilities include:

• Maintain advanced expertise in cinematography, editing, motion graphics, lighting, audio production, and post-production workflows.
• Identify opportunities to improve production quality, efficiency, and creative execution.
• Remain up to date and forward looking on the use of new technologies and innovations to improve the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of video production.
• Collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, students, alumni, external partners, and institutional stakeholders

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• 5-8 or more years of professional experience in videography, cinematography, video editing, multimedia production, or related creative fields.
• Demonstrated expertise in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating advanced storytelling, cinematography, editing, motion graphics, and post-production capabilities.
• Experience independently producing content from concept to final delivery for a range of platforms and audiences.
• Experience developing narrative-driven content from interviews and documentary-style footage.
• Demonstrated ability to produce video content for public relations, media relations, and institutional communications audiences.
• Advanced knowledge of camera systems, audio equipment, lighting, and production workflows.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and quickly.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under deadlines and adapt to changing priorities while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for institutional events and productions.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience in higher education, nonprofit, agency, media, or brand marketing environments.
• Experience creating content for executive communications, advancement campaigns, enrollment marketing, or public relations initiatives.
• Experience with digital asset management systems, including Photoshelter.
• Experience developing content strategies for multi-channel distribution.
