The Service Line Director is master's prepared with outpatient administration experience and is responsible for the administration and oversight of the service line and site operational budget, development and management, program planning, and resource allocation. The Director ensures the development and implementation of patient care standards across the service line, maintaining consistency and compliance with policy and procedure, professional practice standards, and the continuous delivery of efficient, cost‑effective patient care. The role provides oversight for services at the HSC campus and community offices, analyzes data to increase access, reduce costs, and create efficiencies, engages in process improvement, program and system implementation, and facility projects to support Keck Medicine of USC’s goals. The Director delivers timely feedback and suggests solutions concerning Press Ganey and CGCAPS scores, operationalizes growth and development of practice(s) and new service opportunities, supports leadership, delegates responsibilities, and establishes a collaborative working environment. The Director actively communicates with leadership, department administrators, division chiefs, and chairs. Essential Duties Participates in establishing systems supporting shared governance and management philosophy. Collaborates with the Ambulatory Chief Administrative Officer, CNO, Medical Director, USC Care CMO, and local management to ensure suitable treatment modalities for all patients. Ensures policies and procedures are in place and followed for continuity of planned care. Ensures proactive, high‑quality communication with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient care. Directly schedules appointments with managers locally and within the Access Center to ensure steady patient flow and productive patient‑physician relationships. Works with physicians and staff to assure adequate availability to meet requirements and internal Department standards. Manages practice registration services to ensure compliance with USC Care and hospital/university policies, completing all required components for billing and collections, and ensuring accurate insurance information. Coordinates clinic nursing services with managers and supervision, ensuring compliance with TJC standards, staffing plans, and contingency plans. Works with managers, supervisors, IT, and ambulatory leadership to ensure practices comply with all quality and financial metrics (e.g., MIPS) through periodic audit of records. Supports compliance work with the Medical Director, USC Care CMO, and individual physicians. Facilitates room utilization, ensuring exam rooms are assigned and utilized appropriately. Monitors space/resource requirements and utilization of outside resources. Participates in the design and construction of new space, expansion, and integration projects. Oversees transitional processes of acquisitions and participates in due diligence meetings. Works with Facilities and Clinical Engineering to ensure proper functioning of all patient‑care equipment. Maintains liaison relationships between USC Care Medical Group ambulatory services and department leadership through attendance and participation at meetings and oral/written communication. Contributes to developing and monitoring the operational budget each year, analyzing variances, and using the budget to find more effective care delivery methods. Forms site‑specific budgets with clinic directors, managers, and finance teams in accordance with policies. Reviews, authorizes, and monitors expense reports; prepares and submits exceptions to finance teams; provides training on financial standards; reviews payroll reports for compliance; ensures timely patient charge and collection submission; maintains cashiering separation of duties. Promotes effective communication and collaborative relationships among the service line, physicians, and department. Ensures open communication lines among staff, physicians, and other departments. Coaches, mentors, and implements cross‑training and staff distribution changes to promote efficient service delivery, safe, legal, and customer‑service oriented care. Facilitates staff and physician training, ensuring optimal use of software platforms and digital technologies. Ensures a workable staffing plan with HR so that quality care can be delivered; selects and retains qualified clinical and administrative staff in accordance with USC Care Medical Group philosophy. Ensures management staff understand wage and hour laws and collaborates with HR for compliance. Provides support and training to leaders regarding union contracts. Conducts hiring, promotions, performance evaluations, compensation, and performance management. Performs regular meetings with the leadership team and participates in huddles. Contributes to the development of customer service standards and expectations; establishes methods for monitoring employee, patient, and physician satisfaction. Manages business development activities including hospital collaborations, physician outreach, CME programs, and community outreach. Oversees joint ventures and partnerships within the service line; implements strategic business plans aligned with vision and monitors performance. Plans service provision with appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff; ensures policies and procedures support the scope and conduct standards. Coordinates audit reviews, data collection, and reporting per organizational policy. Oversees quality activities with the lead clinical team and USC Care Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring timely reports and follow‑up. Understands Title 22, JCAHO, and other regulatory requirements and maintains standards of practice. Contributes to the development and implementation of performance improvement programs compliant with JCAHO, Title22, and other agencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. 5 years operational experience in a healthcare facility, preferably in an outpatient setting. 3‑5 years of spine outpatient experience (Spine Service Line). 3‑5 years of otolaryngology head and neck outpatient experience (OHN Service Line). 3‑5 years of neurosciences outpatient experience (Neurosciences Service Line). 3‑5 years of GI/Liver outpatient experience (GI/Liver Service Line). 3‑5 years of ophthalmology outpatient experience (Ophthalmology Service Line). Proficient in MS Office, Outlook, and HRMS system. Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Capable of communicating with all levels of employees and administrative staff. Critical thinking skills. Ability to function independently and as a member of a team. Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, planning, and evaluation skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in a related field, in progress or completed. Required Licenses/Certifications Fire Life Safety Training (LA City). If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration (required in LA City only).
