Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience required License: Virginia license pending accepted Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: Epic experience required Ability to float as needed Description: This position is for a 12-bed medical-surgical/telemetry unit. The patient ratio is 1:4. Patient diagnoses include respiratory illnesses, renal illnesses, diabetes, sepsis, cellulitis, infections, heart failure, sickle cell disease, and cystic fibrosis. The schedule requires working every other weekend. The candidate must work 2 out of the 3 winter holidays. A maximum of 40 hours of time off can be approved. The floating policy requires nurses to float within their scope of practice as needed. The daily work may involve managing chest tubes, interpreting dysrhythmias, and implementing various IV protocols. Special equipment utilized includes PCA pumps and wound vacs. Interdisciplinary support is provided by teams including physical therapy and respiratory services. Documentation will be completed using an electronic health record system. Triage and management of patients in this unit require proficiency in telemetry care. Advanced types of patient care include nurse-driven insulin infusions and monitoring.
