Staff Accountant

We are partnering with a well-established Sacramento organization seeking a Staff Accountant to join its collaborative accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and grant accounting. Key Responsibilities Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger. Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close. Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules. Monitor and reconcile grant activity, ensuring expenditures are accurately recorded and comply with grant requirements. Assist with grant reporting and maintain supporting documentation for internal and external reporting. Prepare budget-to-actual analyses and financial reports. Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing activity for accuracy. Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests. Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and special accounting projects. Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls. Collaborate with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to support day-to-day financial operations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close. Experience with grant accounting and grant compliance is highly desirable. Knowledge of GAAP. Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting software. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
