University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus Department: Immunology & Microbiology Job Title: Laboratory Science Professional (Open Rank: Entry –Senior) Position #00846698 – Requisition #39666 Job Summary This position is in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology in Dr. Jenna Guthmiller's lab. The role utilizes molecular, biochemical, genetic, immunological, and in vitro approaches to study humoral immunity. Responsibilities include handling primary human tissues, maintaining the laboratory biobank, maintaining the animal colony, and performing experiments on animals. Tasks involve laboratory-based studies on primary human cells and influenza viruses at biosafety level 2. The successful candidate will oversee the biobank, participate in research projects, and help maintain laboratory operations. The candidate should have exceptional organizational skills. The employee works closely with the lab manager and assists a postdoctoral fellow in experimental work. Occasionally, protocols may require evening or weekend work. Key Responsibilities Maintain mouse colony (coordinating weaning, breeding, and crosses). Maintain inventory of lab consumables, ensuring reagents are stocked and reordered when necessary. Maintain common lab equipment and ensure access for all lab members. Build working relationships with IACUC and EH&S staff to facilitate inspections, and update the lab’s IACUC protocols, training documentation, SOPs, and EH&S compliance documentation. Design, perform experiments, and analyze data from those experiments; techniques include mouse infections/dissections, flow cytometry, nucleic acid isolation, qPCR/RNA-sequencing, genetic manipulation of viruses, and in vitro cell culture. Attend regular lab and departmental meetings. Work Location Onsite – This role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO. Benefits Medical: Multiple plan options. ECO Pass: Reduced rate RTD Bus and light rail service. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Entry Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis. Intermediate Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis. One (1) year professional level research experience. Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field. A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis. Two (2) years professional level research experience. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a basic science laboratory. Experience with laboratory management. Experience with animal breeding and handling. Previous experience with flow cytometry, molecular biology/biochemistry. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques. Demonstrate that they are well organized, reliable, independent, and possess considerable attention to detail. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution. Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
