About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief of Staff to serve as a scientific and strategic partner to the Executive Director and Core Investigator. This role is pivotal in engaging with the scientific work of the Institute, from experimental design to computational modeling, and in translating that engagement into decision-making, program execution, and cross-disciplinary coordination. The successful candidate will be responsible for pressure-testing scientific projects, distilling complex inputs, fostering collaboration, and preparing external deliverables. They will also be entrusted with confidential information and empowered to act on behalf of the Executive Director, requiring a high level of scientific judgment, discretion, and follow-through. Applicants for the Chief of Staff position at the company should have a Ph.D. or equivalent research training, with a strong scientific track record, or comparable technical depth from a consulting or founder path, and at least 5-12 years of experience. The role demands a background in relevant biology areas such as genome or transcriptome engineering, functional genomics, neuroscience, molecular/cell biology, multi-omics, or computational biology. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, a natural information gatherer and synthesizer, and a strong communicator. They should be adept at managing complex, cross-functional projects, and be able to translate technical work for non-specialist audiences. Experience with CRISPR/gene-editing technologies, functional genomic screens, or high-throughput experimental platforms is preferred, as is a proven ability to partner with teams in computational biology, machine learning, or large-scale genomic data. The role requires a solution-oriented individual who is unflappable amid ambiguity and rapid change, and who is mission-oriented, with a passion for accelerating science through great organization, coordination, and partnership.
