Job Description & Duties Under the direction of the Caltrans Electrical Superintendent, the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor supervises an electrical crew and is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of complex electrical and electronically controlled devices on facilities and right‑of‑ways. Responsibilities include scheduling and assigning work; training and evaluating performance; implementing, maintaining, and enforcing Caltrans policies, health and safety rules, and conducting inspections; developing, maintaining, and reviewing reports; ensuring daily time and records are kept in the Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS); planning project needs, making purchases, and maintaining material inventory; and ensuring employees are properly licensed, trained, and qualified to operate highway maintenance equipment and vehicles. The position may require overtime, irregular shifts—including nights, holidays, weekends—temporary or variable shifts, and emergency response. The supervisor may be loaned to other cost centers. Responsibilities Supervise electrical crew operations. Install, maintain, and repair complex electrical and electronically controlled devices. Schedule and assign work; train and evaluate crew performance. Enforce Caltrans policies, health and safety rules, and conduct inspections. Maintain and review reports and ensure accurate record‑keeping in IMMS. Plan project needs, purchase materials, and manage inventory. Ensure crew licensing, training, and equipment operation compliance. Work overtime, irregular shifts, nights, holidays, weekends, and emergencies as needed. Qualifications & Requirements Eligibility will be determined by the Caltrans Electrical Supervisor exam or other state examination list criteria. Valid Class C driver’s license (Class A or B with endorsements and current medical certificate desirable). Computer and telemetry skills desirable. High voltage work may be required; training will be provided. Must hold a valid driver’s license for operating state vehicles. Evidence of education and/or experience as required by the classification specification (include unofficial transcripts, diplomas, or equivalency reports for foreign credentials; redact birthdates and SSNs when submitting transcripts). Special Requirements Operates highway maintenance equipment and vehicles; must possess a valid driver’s license. No high voltage situations above 600 volts in District 12; high voltage work may be required later. Training will be provided before any high voltage work.
