Bus Aide

Supervises: Students and/or areas as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Job Goal: Assist the Driver to ensure the safety of students who are being transported

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel

Responsibilities:

• Work with Bus Driver(s), Transportation Supervisor, and Transportation Clerk to aid a student in line with a student's I.E.P.
• Assist students with physical disabilities on and off the bus using the wheelchair lift or other adaptations as instructed - Battery or hydraulic powered
• Monitor students with disabilities while they ride the bus to ensure their safety and assist them with any physical needs
• Have physical capability of safely and appropriately lifting and managing preschool and special needs children when necessary
• Make sure that students with disabilities are safely left with a school staff member or their parent/caregiver before departing
• Properly handle wheelchair tie-down straps and other safety equipment as needed
• Deal with students in a friendly manner, even the occasional unruly student
• Deal with occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids
• Assist the Bus Driver with other duties as requested by the Bus Driver, Transportation Supervisor, or Transportation Clerk
• Comply with all Plain Local Board of Education policies and procedures
• Perform other duties as directed
