The city of Aurora is looking for a dynamic, energetic individual to lead the Preschool Program at one of our centers.**PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES*** Develops, schedules, coordinates and implements preschool programs.* Maintains and enforces all documents, records and requirements to meet Colorado Department of Early Childhood, Arapahoe County Health Department, Aurora Fire, Nurse Consultant, city of Aurora, Colorado Shines and any other designated regulatory agency’s rules, regulations and policies.* Supervise program site; schedules and oversees activities of preschool staff and/or volunteers.* Marketing to increase and maintain targeted enrollment for the preschool programs.* Teaches in the classroom as assigned or for coverage needs.* Develops and attends promotional and marketing activities.* Analyze, propose, & modify preschool programming and budget to sustain target enrollments and program profitability.* Manages the day-to-day operations of the Preschool Program, including fiscal management, hiring, overseeing and evaluating preschool staff.* Oversees and handles situations with staff, children and adults in a professional and effective manner.* Performs administrative tasks such as purchasing, making budget recommendations, maintaining records of expenditures and cash handling.* Collaborative relationships with all programs within the city of Aurora as well as works with other agencies such as the Universal Preschool Program, local preschool councils, and Colorado Shines.* Coordinates and schedules facility usage as needed.* Monitors maintenance of assigned equipment or facilities.* Perform other duties as assignedThis job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS**An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.**Education:*** Must meet the education and experience guidelines for a Large Child Care Center Director as outlined in the Colorado Department of Early Childhood Rules and Regulations 7.702.43 + A: Large center directors must have a current director qualifications letter issued by the Department or a current Early Childhood Professional Credential level III or higher in version 3.0 as determined by the Department. + B: The educational requirements for the director of a large center must be met by satisfactory completion of one of the following. Official college transcripts must be submitted to the Department for evaluation of qualifications. + 1: A Bachelor’s Master’s or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following: - Child Development; - Child Psychology; - Early Childhood Education; - Early Childhood Special Education; - Educational Leadership & Administration; - Elementary Education; - Family & Human Development; - Family Studies or - Special Education. + 2: Completion of all of the following three semester credit hour course from an accredited college or university in each of the following subjects or content areas: - Introduction to Early Childhood Professions; - Introduction to Early Childhood Techniques; - Guidance Strategies for Young Children or has been issued the Colorado Pyramid Model Training certificate of completion; - Health, Nutrition & Safety; - Administration of Early Childhood Care & Education Programs; - Administration: Human Relations for Early Childhood Professions or Introduction to Business; - Curriculum Development: Methods & Techniques; - Child Growth & Development; - The Exceptional Child and - Infant/Toddler Theory & Practice or have been issued the Expanding Quality Infant/Toddler Training certificate of completion + 3: Completion of a course of training approved by the Department that includes course content listed at Section 7.703.43, B, 1; and experience listed at Section 7.702.43, C**Experience:*** The experience requirements for the director of a large center must include direct work with young children and families within an early care and education setting and is based on the completion of the following amount of verified work experience in the care and supervision of four or more children less than eight years of age who are not related to the individual* 1: Persons with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate degree with a major emphasis as listed above or individuals with an Early Childhood Professional Credential Level II Version 3.0 as determined by the Department; no additional experience is required.* 2: Persons with an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development must have three months (455 hours) of verified experience.* 3: Persons with a Bachelor’s degree and have completed the thirty semester credit hours specified above must have three months (455 hours) of verified experience.* 4: Persons who have no degree but have completed the thirty semester credit hours specified above must have six months (910 hours) of verified experience.* 5: Additional requirements for verified experience include:* Verified experience acquired in a school-age childcare center may count for up to half of the required experience for director qualifications. The other half of the required experience must be working directly with children in a child development program and’* For family childcare home experience to be considered, the applicant must be, or have been, the licensee in the State of Colorado.* At least two years of progressively responsible experience working directly with children in a child development program.* One year of preschool supervisory experience.* Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, generations, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.* Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.* Conflict resolution and mediation expertise.* Decision making proficiencies.* Overseeing budgets; revenues and expense**Preferred Qualifications:*** Experience with Colorado Shines, Universal Preschool Program, registration and/or child care management softwares, TS GOLD and Workday**Knowledge:*** Business Administration- Ability to oversee budgets; revenues and expenses to balance the budget.* Programming, implementing and marketing preschool programs.* Child development and administration of appropriate practices* Effective classroom management and positive guidance techniques* Knowledge of standard computer operations including word, processing, spreadsheets and presentations.* FERPA & HIPPA guidelines* Colorado Early Learning and Development Guidelines* Governing rules and regulations (Office of Early Childhood, local health department, Colorado Shines, etc)**Skills:*** Must possess outstanding customer service skills and ability to deal with diverse groups.* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.* Working knowledge and understanding of public relations skills and techniques.* Strong organization, management, communication, crisis management, interpersonal and planning skills.* Proficient windows-based computer skills**Abilities:*** Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; prepare and write reports, correspondence, and projects. Ability to motivate staff and create a positive work environment**Licenses and Certifications Required:**Please attach a copy of your Director’s certification and Early Childhood Professional Credential v3.0 for verification of meeting all requirements for a Large Center Director* Current Driver’s License* Must meet appropriate Large Center Director requirements/qualifications and provide all documentation as required by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood upon hire which includes: + CBI & FBI Criminal Background checks + Child Abuse and Neglect (TRAILS) check + Current Colorado Large Center Director qualification letter and current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level III or higher (3.0 version) + Multi-hazard Planning for Childcare Disaster Preparedness Training through FEMA + Pre-Service Building and Physical Premises Safety training (within 30 days) + Introduction to the Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education Programs (within 90 days) + Recognizing the Impact of Bias on Early Childhood Professionals (within 90 days) + Working with an Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (within 90 days) + Introduction to Child Care Health Consultation (within 90 days)* Maintain all necessary requirements/trainings which include: + Current First Aid/CPR/AED certificate or 1 hr First Aid certification through PDIS (every 2 years) + OSHA approved Standard Precautions (Annually) + Recognition and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect (Annually) + Prevention of Shaken Baby/Abusive Head Trauma Training (every 2 years) + Complete fifteen (15) hours training annually as specified by the Office of Early Childhood + Maintain PDIS profile and current Credential Level + Any additional trainings as assigned by the Preschool Senior Supervisor**WORKING CONDITIONS****Essential Personnel:**When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel**Physical Demands:*** Moderate physical work; may require ability to lift up to 50 pounds with our without assistance; some lifting and carrying objects.* Frequent standing and walking* May require frequent bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing* Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer* Clear vision to read books, reports and other written material* Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with students, families, COA employees and citizens.**Work Environment:*** Works primarily in clean, comfortable environment; may require outdoor work with exposure to dust, sun, odors and noise.**Equipment Used:*** Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel, Teams, WebEx, power point, and menu driven databases as a part of the automated systems* The use of personal equipment (e.g. cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.* Requires operation of own motor vehicle.The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026.
