Role Description The Head Chef is a full-time, on-site role based at Tavern on the Moor in Kansas City, MO. This role is responsible for overseeing all kitchen operations, including menu planning, recipe development, food preparation, and plating standards. Daily tasks include managing kitchen staff schedules, supervising line and prep cooks, maintaining food quality and safety, and controlling inventory and food costs. The Head Chef will work closely with management to design seasonal menus, coordinate specials, and support events, while ensuring compliance with health regulations and internal policies. This role also involves training team members, fostering a positive and efficient kitchen culture, and helping maintain strong relationships with suppliers. Qualifications Demonstrated experience as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, or similar leadership role in a restaurant or hospitality environment. Strong skills in menu development, recipe creation, and execution of consistent, high-quality dishes. Proficiency in food safety, sanitation practices, and adherence to local health codes and regulations. Ability to manage kitchen operations, including staff scheduling, inventory control, and cost management. Experience training, mentoring, and supervising kitchen staff in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collaborate with front-of-house and management teams. Comfort working on-site, standing for extended periods, and handling typical physical demands of a busy kitchen. Culinary degree, formal training, or equivalent professional experience in a commercial kitchen setting is preferred.
