Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day (3x12 hours) Hours per Shift: 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30); Night (3x12 hours) 19:00 - 07:30 Experience: Minimum 2 years of high acuity PCU experience preferred License: Valid compact or state license Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: - High acuity PCU patient experience - Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls - Interpretation of dysrhythmias - Use of rapid response teams - Blood product administration - Central line care/management - Peripheral line care/management - Starting IVs Description: This position involves working in a medical oncology progressive care unit. The unit cares for high acuity PCU patients. Patients may have diagnoses including solid tumors, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology. The unit has a total of 36 beds, with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level care. Pediatric patients are rare in this unit and would generally be overseen by permanent staff. Chemotherapy experience is preferred but not required. The facility emphasizes infection prevention and patient safety protocols. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 for medical-surgical telemetry and 1:3 for PCU patients. Nurses may be required to float between units of equivalent or lower levels of care. Weekend shifts and variable scheduling are expected based on unit needs. Candidates must have experience with the interpretation of ABGs, management of cardiac drips, and tracheostomy care. Strong skills in wound care and monitoring chemotherapy are also beneficial.
