Job Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for supporting patients with their daily activities and providing essential nursing care. This role involves maintaining a safe and clean environment under the supervision of licensed nursing staff while adhering to the facility's philosophy and standards.

Responsibilities

Perform patient care activities, including responding to call lights, serving and collecting food trays, assisting with feeding, and measuring and recording food and liquid intake as well as output.
Assist with activities of daily living such as dressing and undressing patients, bathing, and performing personal care tasks including oral hygiene, perineal care, foley care, backrubs, and shaving while ensuring patient privacy and dignity.
Carry out routine treatments and procedures such as applying warm and cold applications; assist RN/LPN with more complex treatment procedures, collect specimens (stool, urine, sputum), and take and record vital signs, weight, and height.
Prepare units, patient rooms, and beds for incoming admissions, transfers, emergencies, and discharges while ensuring cleanliness and safety in patient rooms and work areas.
Care for patients in the Emergency Room under RN supervision, promptly reporting any changes in patients' conditions or behaviors to the RN/LPN.
Adhere to established facility and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, including those related to fire safety, environmental standards, quality assurance, hazardous materials, and infection control.
Participate in required meetings, in-services, and educational programs, maintaining knowledge of posted information, notes, and minutes; serve on nursing service committees as requested.

Possess the ability to read, write, and follow both verbal and written instructions; know the location of equipment and supplies for the unit.
Have the visual and auditory capabilities to observe physical and mental statuses of patients and detect any changes.
Effectively communicate verbally with patients, healthcare team members, visitors, and family members.

Education/Experience/Licensure

Certified through the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions.
Visual and auditory capability to observe and detect changes in patient/resident statuses.
Effective verbal communication skills with patients, healthcare teams, visitors, and families required.
BLS-CPR Certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
