HIM Project Coordinator

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Project Coordinator in the Health Information Management department . This position requires you to work onsite at Hyde Park until probationary period ends. After that, 2 days on site with 3 remote days. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

In this role, the Project Coordinator under general direction, is responsible for medical record accuracy and completion of medical records within the UChicago Medicine health system. Partners with interdisciplinary teams to address and resolve clinical and financial discrepancies, ensuring timely and accurate corrections. Acts as liaison for providers to resolve issues related to incomplete records or open encounters. Maintains the master and enterprise patient index, investigating and resolving duplicate medical record numbers and linkages to ensure data integrity.

Essential Job Functions

• Provides data integrity services for the health system to ensure that incorrect data is reported and corrected accurately and timely. This includes entry of each case in the Epic chart correction tool with comprehensive information providing details around the error, how it occurred and what actions were taken to correct the errors.

• Maintains the master and enterprise patient index by investigating and resolving potential duplicate medical records and linkages.

• Performs quality reviews and audits related to medical record timeliness and accuracy.

• Monitors and reports incomplete medical record information to providers and department & section leaders.

• Participate in correction of large-scale system errors due to conversions, build issues and clinical system integrations.

• Maintains a thorough knowledge of HIPAA, Joint Commission Standards and state and federal laws as they apply to medical record documentation and management.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in health information management or health care administration or the equivalent education, training or work experience.

• Requires 5-8 years of experience in an acute care teaching hospital health information management department.

• Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required to communicate with cross functional teams.
• Strong analytic and critical thinking skills are necessary to problem solve data correction needs and activities.
• Excellent prioritization and organizational skills needed in order to meet deadlines.

• Advanced skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credentials with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
