We are seeking a detail-oriented, tech-forward Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This is a foundational accounting role where roughly 90% of your time will be dedicated to core corporate accounting functions—such as month-end close support, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and accounts payable/receivable.

The remaining 10% of your time will focus on applying modern AI tools, low-code automations, and lightweight scripting to eliminate manual busywork, speed up reconciliations, and help modernize our accounting operations.

This role is ideal for a recent college graduate with an accounting degree (or minor/interest in data analytics or computer science) who wants to build strong GAAP fundamentals while staying at the cutting edge of finance technology.

Key Responsibilities

1. Core Accounting Operations (~90%)

• Month-End Close Support: Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes by preparing and posting standard journal entries (accruals, prepayments, depreciation).
• Reconciliations: Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and intercompany balances.
• AP & AR Transactions: Process vendor invoices, match purchase orders, verify expense reports, and assist with billing schedules and collections follow-up.
• Audit & Compliance: Maintain clean, audit-ready supporting documentation for all entries in adherence with US GAAP and internal controls.
• Financial Reporting: Assist senior accounting staff with variance analyses, trial balance reviews, and ad-hoc reporting schedules for leadership.

2. AI & Workflow Automation (~10%)

• AI-Assisted Workflows: Leverage generative AI platforms (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot) for draft research on accounting memos, spreadsheet formula generation, and data cleaning.
• Process Modernization: Identify repetitive, manual spreadsheet tasks across the team and suggest simple automated alternatives (using tools like Power Query, Zapier, Make, or Python).
• Document Extraction: Test and configure automated extraction workflows to pull data directly from PDF invoices, receipts, and bank statements into the accounting system.
• Continuous Learning: Keep the team informed on emerging AI features in ERP platforms and financial software suites.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Accounting Information Systems (AIS), or a related business field.
• Experience Level: 0–1 year of professional experience (accounting internships, bookkeeping roles, or relevant campus financial experience welcome).
• CPA Track: CPA eligible (150 credit hours completed or actively in progress) is preferred, but not strictly required.

Technical & Analytical Skills

• Accounting Core: Firm grasp of double-entry bookkeeping, debits/credits, the general ledger, and fundamental US GAAP rules.
• Spreadsheet Fluency: Strong Microsoft Excel skills (familiarity with XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, Pivot Tables, and nested logic).
• Tech Curiosity & AI Familiarity:
• • Demonstrated curiosity about AI tools (experience using LLMs for structured problem-solving, prompt structuring, or workflow exploration).
  • Basic exposure to programming or data querying (introductory Python , SQL , or Power BI/Power Query ) through coursework, bootcamps, or personal projects is a strong plus.
• Attention to Detail: High accuracy in entering figures, verifying calculations, and spotting ledger discrepancies.
