Information Officer (IO) I (Specialist) - Telework Hybrid

Job Description and Duties

This position is located at the DMV Headquarters in Sacramento.

Under the direction of the Information Officer II (Supervisor), the Information Officer I is responsible for performing the professional tasks related to media relations and public affairs activities for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). These duties include developing print and digital news stories, news releases, media messaging and other communications tools. Furthermore, the Information Officer will act as the primary contact responsible for developing, maintaining, monitoring, and strategizing social media content on all DMV platforms.

The Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

Primarily sedentary for extended periods of time and operates a computer terminal. Provides presentations and participates in meetings. Ability to communicate effectively with internal/external customers in writing and over the telephone. Requires fine hand manipulation and repetitive use of hands. Occasional reaching above shoulder level, occasional bending/stooping, and occasional lifting up to twenty pounds. May require statewide travel, including overnight travel.

Must be able to follow verbal and written instruction, communicate effectively, utilize a variety of analytical technique, possess strong organization, time management, and customer service skills. Must demonstrate dependability and be able to work independently or within a team atmosphere. Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube). TikTok is desirable. Basic knowledge of social media scheduling platforms. No certificates or degrees required. Basic typing skills required. Proficient knowledge and basic knowledge of Microsoft office and Internet.
