Must successfully complete the required training program: lateral officers must complete an advanced academy (policy, defensive tactics, firearms, POST preparation, and field training). Failure to complete the 18‑month probationary period results in termination. Pay – starting hourly pay is $28.86 (step 1). Salary may be adjusted based on education, qualifications, experience, and service years. Role The Lateral Police Officer position is designed for officers currently employed with another agency who hold a CategoryI Nevada POST Certificate or are a certified Police Officer in one of the states listed on the Nevada P.O.S.T. website. The position requires the submission of a scanned copy of the current valid Peace Officer Certification. Under direct supervision, responsibilities include the performance of professional police work in preserving and protecting public peace and safety, enforcing the law, and protecting life while preventing crime. Qualifications – Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED. U.S. citizenship. Minimum age 21 at the time of hire. Other Conditions of Employment At least two (2) years of continuous, uninterrupted service with a law‑enforcement agency in duties directly related to CategoryI Nevada POST standards at time of application. Valid CategoryI (Police Officer) Nevada POST certificate or equivalent from an approved state; a copy must be attached to the online application. Character above reproach pursuant to NRS289.555 and NAC289.110. No conviction for a crime requiring registration and/or misdemeanor domestic‑violence convictions. Residence in the greater Las Vegas Metropolitan area (North Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City, or Las Vegas) unless authorized by the Chief of Police. Valid Nevada ClassC driver’s license with satisfactory driving record at time of hire. Licenses and Certifications Valid state driver’s license at time of application and throughout employment. Valid Nevada POST CategoryI certificate must be current with no prior suspensions or revocations. Out‑of‑State Applicants – Additional Requirements Pass a Nevada POST approved Physical Agility Test after hire. Complete an 80‑hour online Reciprocity certification training after hire.
