Position Title: SENIOR ESTIMATOR FLSA Status: LEARNED PROFESSIONAL EXEMPTION Reports To: DIRECTOR OF DESIGN AND PRECONSTRUCTION DESCRIPTION: Prepare, coordinate, and analyze cost estimates in a timely manner for the Sales Team to create clear, concise, and accurate bids and scopes of work. Analyze sub-trade quotes against bid specifications and drawings. Be responsible and accountable to the Sales Team for successful and timely bid submittals. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Lead a team of commercial construction estimators • Attend Hand-Off Meetings to assure a smooth project review and order transaction • Become well versed in the construction capabilities of the company to determine bid/no bid • Collaborate with Sales to obtain pertinent data about projects being quoted • Conduct a detailed review of plans and specifications against sub-trade quotes • Develop and review the Scope of Work sheets for each project to protect company interests • Double check all data entries into the cost estimate to avoid mistakes • Interact with sub-trades to for best price and compliance to spec • Interface with Operations as needed to assure constructability to questionable specs or design • Manage and coordinate sub-trade RFI's and clarifications with the Estimating Team • Perform a comprehensive "bid day" analysis and review with the Sales and Management Team to ensure a successful bid • Prepare bid packages for sub-trades • Produce timely, concise and accurate takeoffs • Properly schedule estimating activities to meet bid dates for each project • Research and apply products and materials to the needs of the project • Secure quotes from subcontractors and specialty vendors as necessary • Seek out new sub-trades for competitive bid projects. • Transmit addenda and other bid information to subcontractors • Understand how to fit sub-trades to the scope/size of the project • Work with the Sales/Estimating Team to meet tight deadlines for bids • Work with the Sales Manager, Operations Manager, and/or Plant Manager to maximize profit margins for cost estimates based on backlog, project type and project size EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • High School diploma or GED with some College preferred • Minimum 5 years or equivalent work experience in construction estimating • Minimum 3 years or equivalent work experience in estimating/purchasing/project management • Working knowledge of Building Codes, Construction, Estimating and Materials • Skills in: • Accuracy/Attention to detail • Blueprint reading • Bid spec comparison • Confidentiality • Strong collaboration abilities
