The Medical Intensive Care Unit MICU is a high-acuity critical care environment specializing in the management of complex, life-threatening medical and cardiovascular conditions. This mixed ICU provides comprehensive care to adult patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation, and multi-organ support.
The unit cares for a diverse patient population, including those with severe sepsis and septic shock, postcardiac arrest requiring targeted temperature management, advanced heart failure, and patients undergoing evaluation for heart and other solid organ transplantation. The team also manages patients with acute coronary syndromes, cardiogenic shock, arrhythmias, and those requiring mechanical circulatory support.
Care delivery is supported by a multidisciplinary team of intensivists, cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals. The unit emphasizes evidence-based practice, early recognition and intervention, and adherence to national quality benchmarks (e.g., sepsis bundles, postcardiac arrest care guidelines).
The Assistant Nurse Manager is involved in ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and/or provision of patient care delivery in assigned nursing unit(s) or area(s). Promotes environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes. Accountable for the quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness of patient care. Consults and collaborates with other health care professionals to coordinate the management of patient care. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, students and others.
Supervises staff involved in providing clinical patient care. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in a specific patient care area and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. May assume full responsibility for the unit in delegated areas and in the absence of the manager.
This position is an ICU level of care assistant nurse manager which is required to work 60% clinical and 40% administrative.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors or Master's Degree in Nursing. Will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in BSN or higher nursing degree program.
- Registered Nurse (RN) issued by the state of California.
- Current ART certification or BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months of hire date
- Three (3+) or more years of acute care inpatient ICU experience.
- Two (2+) or more years of Charge Nurse or other formal nursing leadership experience.
- Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a patient care unit.
- In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations and internal policies.
- Knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources matters and employee performance. Provides input to decision-makers on human resources matters.
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
- Effective interpersonal skills for effective information exchange and problem solving with all levels of management and staff, consultants and outside agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner. Prepares and presents a variety of reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.
- Knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in nursing units or departments.
- Demonstrated hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
- Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, and sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills

- Relevant nursing certification (PCCN, CCRN, NE-BC, etc.)
Special Conditions
- This position has both clinical and administrative duties.
- This position is eligible for shift differentials. Some weekend shifts required.
- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $132,600 - $259,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $63.51 - $124.43
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
