Do you love dogs and enjoy working in a fast-paced, active environment? Central Bark Athens is hiring dependable, energetic, and compassionate team members to join our Whole Dog CareTM team as an Assistant Manager.

 

At Central Bark Athens, we focus on dog enrichment, socialization, safety, and personalized care. This role combines leadership, customer service, operations, and hands-on dog care. The Assistant Manager helps oversee daily daycare, boarding, and grooming operations while ensuring every dog receives safe, personalized, and enrichment-focused care.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with daily operations of daycare, boarding, grooming, retail, and front desk services
• Help lead, coach, train, and support team members
• Supervise safe dog playgroups using enrichment-focused handling practices
• Monitor dog body language and behavior to maintain safe interactions
• Build strong relationships with pet parents and deliver exceptional customer service
• Answer phones, manage reservations, and assist customers at check-in/check-out
• Assist with employee scheduling and shift coverage
• Help maintain company standards, safety procedures, and operational consistency
• Support local marketing initiatives and community engagement
• Feed, leash, crate, medicate, and care for dogs throughout the day
• Maintain a clean and sanitized facility including kennels, play areas, and common spaces
• Assist with inventory and retail organization
• Step into any operational role as needed to support the team
• Help hold team members accountable to company standards and safety procedures
• Assist with opening and closing responsibilities
• Help manage daily staffing levels and workflow priorities
• Support conflict resolution with employees and customers when needed

Ideal Candidates We’re Looking For

• Leadership or supervisory experience
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable working with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments
• Reliable, dependable, and team-oriented
• Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts as needed
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout the day

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scheduling, retail operations, or team leadership
• Previous experience in dog daycare, boarding, kennel, veterinary, grooming, or animal care environments preferred

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform frequent standing, bending, walking, and physical activity throughout shifts
• Ability to safely handle dogs of all sizes, temperaments, energy levels, and breeds
• Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Schedule

• Employees must be available to work some weekends and holidays, and a combination of early morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, in all weather conditions, as part of a year-round operation
