Refrigeration Engineer

Job Description

Technical:

\n

Evaluate entire commercial (supermarket) refrigeration systems (primarily parallel compression “racks”) for condition, capacity, and efficiency given proposed remodel-related changes to the system.

\n

\n

\n
• Survey existing systems and collect all pertinent system architecture information, model numbers, condition, etc.
\n
• Perform refrigeration load calculations.
\n
• Arrange loads on appropriate compressor suction groups.
\n
• Calculate compressor & condenser capacity & select new equipment when needed.
\n
• Size all related piping, pressure regulating valves, etc.
\n
• Understand alternate system types and be able to specify when needed. IE, condensing units, distributed systems, secondary pumped systems.
\n
• Be willing and able to learn about new system types such as CO2 Transcritical systems.
\n
• Generate refrigeration designs in compliance with all applicable local and state codes.
\n
• Generate refrigeration designs in compliance with owner specifications and design guidelines.
\n

Leadership:

\n

\n
• Assign tasks to team members including support engineering staff and drafting technicians in a manner to execute projects efficiently and successfully.
\n
• Provide training to EIT’s and other mechanical/refrigeration designers when/where needed.
\n
• Review, approve, and take ownership for design work provided by team members when necessary.
\n

\n

\n

Qualifications:

\n

\n
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, a minimum 5 years of experience in refrigeration design is required, and a Professional Engineer (preferred, or EIT pursuing PE) with a license in good standing.
\n
• Or an associate degree with minimum 10 years’ experience in refrigeration design who can show the applicability of the experience to the job description included.
\n

• Excellent knowledge of discipline specific codes and other building codes.

• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
\n
• Good leadership skills to educate client.
\n
• Meet with the Project team to discuss the schedule, budget, phasing, site issues, and design review issues.
\n
• Review preliminary and final design with other disciplines for function, clearances and coordination.
\n
• Client contact.
\n
• Perform quality assurance on projects in coordination with technical manager or project engineer.
\n
• Set high standards, professional integrity and seek the interests of the company and client.
\n
• Ability to meet fast-paced deadlines.
\n
• Additional duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, able to handle stressful situations and multi-tasking, able to work under time constraints, long hours may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Must be able to handle stressful situations, multi-tasking, and working within reasonable time constraints to meet production schedules and budgets. Will work in normal office environment and may also be required to work outside of a normal office from time-to-time.
