Machine Operator-1st shift Job Description Peerless Pump Company, an Indianapolis based subsidiary of Grundfos, is seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join its Indianapolis Vertical Machining team. The role focuses on precision machining of components used in pumps for fire, industrial, and municipal applications. Why Peerless? What you will be doing As a key part of the Manufacturing Operations team, you will create impact by ensuring every component meets exacting quality standards while driving continuous improvement and operational excellence on the production floor. Your main responsibilities include: Set up and operate manual machines (saws, broaches, balancers, grinders, trim lathes, shaft straighteners) to perform all operations within machine capability, including metal removal, balancing, and grinding wheel dressing Perform secondary operations such as deburring, drilling, tapping, honing, reaming, polishing, countersinking, and bushing installation to meet print specifications Inspect parts for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications using precision measuring instruments and gauges Maintain manual and electronic records including data entry in SAP and retrieve production information as needed Handle material using forklifts, cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment; receive, store, and retrieve materials to support production flow Provide training and instruction to fellow operators, promote teamwork, and support Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives What makes you a great fit Above all, you are a detail-oriented machining professional with strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to read engineering drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
