REGISTERED NURSE – NURSING SERVICES

POSITION SUMMARY:

Supervises nursing services and directs resident care in accordance with good nursing practice and applicable state and federal regulations. Oversees the day-to-day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants and LPNs while ensuring quality resident care.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Pennsylvania RN license or temporary work permit required at the time of interview.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.
• COVID vaccination required.
• New graduates are welcome to apply.
• Nursing home/long-term care experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of medical asepsis, body mechanics, resident personal care, equipment use, observation techniques, reporting, and documentation.
• Knowledge of nursing theory and its application.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directives.
• Strong communication and observation skills.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and respond effectively to emergency situations.
• Professional and courteous manner when working with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.
• Commitment to meeting the needs of elderly residents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Administer and document medications, treatments, glucose checks, and other monitoring as ordered.
• Accurately transcribe physician orders.
• Complete monthly summaries and update resident care plans.
• Monitor and report significant changes in resident condition.
• Communicate resident transfers and complete required transfer documentation.
• Assist physicians with rounds, examinations, and treatments.
• Collect and properly document laboratory specimens.
• Supervise and direct nursing assistants to ensure the prescribed plan of care is followed.
• Monitor nursing assistant documentation for completeness and compliance.
• Provide direct resident care as needed.
• Assist with orientation and training of new nursing staff.
• Adjust staffing assignments as needed to support quality resident care.
• Conduct team conferences as needed.
• Assist with nursing assistant evaluations.
• Complete incident reports accurately.
• Document vital signs, weights, and follow-up care as needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation and resident records.
• Count and document controlled medications according to policy.
• Maintain resident belongings inventory.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Report safety hazards and submit maintenance requests as needed.
• Attend care plan conferences, in-services, staff meetings, and committee meetings as required.
• Assist CNAs and other nursing staff as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

EMR/EHR:

• Experience with electronic medical records/documentation systems.

DRESS CODE:

• Any-color scrubs.
• Clean, closed-toe shoes in good repair.
• Clean and professional appearance.
• Cardigans or vests permitted.
• No large or dangling jewelry.
• No heavy perfumes.
• Name tag worn daily.
• No short or jogging pants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Good physical health and mental alertness to perform job responsibilities.
• Ability to complete required physical/employment assessments.
• Knowledge of proper body mechanics.
• Ability to safely perform assigned nursing duties.
• Must meet applicable health and safety requirements.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• BLS (AHA)
