Physical Therapist, Outpatient

Location: Lawrence, MA (Andover/No. Andover YMCA). Days/Evenings. Scheduled Hours per Week: Per Diem. Merrimack Health Rehabilitation Services outpatient department consists of 4 clinics in the Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston area. We offer outpatient orthopedic physical therapy services along with specializations including pelvic floor/women's health, aquatic therapy, and vestibular/neurological. New grads welcome to apply! DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop, coordinate, and utilize knowledge and skills in planning, organizing, and implementing treatment programs for individuals whose function is impaired or threatened by disease and/or injury. Independently perform physical therapy examination (history, system review, tests, and measures) and assess and interpret findings to determine a physical therapy diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention in consultation with a physician by prescription. Use problem‑solving and clinical decision‑making to independently design, implement, and modify therapeutic interventions to maintain, improve, or restore function. Consult with referring clinicians regarding patient treatment plans as appropriate. Complete discharge planning, consulting with other healthcare team members as needed to ensure appropriate level of services for continued care. Encourage and assist patients in meeting the plan of care goals. Ensure continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by designing home exercise programs; instructing and educating the patient/family/caregiver; and recommending and/or providing assistive equipment. Determine when the physical therapist’s expertise and decision‑making capability require personal rendering of interventions and when to utilize a physical therapist assistant, maximizing safe, effective, and efficient service delivery. Directly supervise rehab techs and students in the department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with policies and applicable laws, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints; and resolving problems. Use acceptable billing and coding practices; document appropriately in the electronic medical record. Maintain professional and technical knowledge and skills by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, networking, and participating in professional organizations. Modify work schedule to meet and accommodate patient needs. Schedules and shifts may vary, including evenings. Contribute to team effort, department AOP, and organizational goals and strategy; participate in staff and community education by providing in‑services; assist in overall day‑to‑day operations of the department. Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional licensure requirements. Other duties as assigned.
