MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN I/ EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS HOMELESSNESS

Position Overview The Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified individuals to fill emergency Mental Health Clinician I vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, successful applicants may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with the opportunity for permanent County employment. Assessment of job‑performance will be weighted 100%; those who pass will be considered for permanent appointment. Essential Job Functions Interview and conduct diagnostic assessments of clients to develop treatment and recovery plans for clients and/or their family members. Participate in the intake process, interviewing clients and/or family members to obtain family, social, employment, medical, and mental‑health treatment history; provide crisis intervention, treatment, case management, referrals, and other related mental‑health care services. Participate in a multi‑disciplinary team to review client cases, treatment approaches, clinical issues, client progress, and treatment recommendations; and prepare and present progress reports. Participate in the development of individual and group treatment plans designed to address mental, emotional, and family disorders and dysfunction. Provide ongoing clinical assessment, treatment planning, and clinical treatment for clients and families. Perform intensive casework services with children and adult clients and their relatives through individual and group sessions. Prepare and maintain clinical case histories for use in diagnostic evaluations and to record client treatment progress. Coordinate continuity of care and other treatment‑related services with caseworkers, probation officers, and community and health‑care workers. Coordinate mental‑health support services to clients and families by linking them to other community resources to maximize client self‑sufficiency and independence. Interview clients seeking mental‑health intervention services on an emergency basis and utilize crisis intervention and community outreach techniques supportive of client recovery in the community. Under supervision of a licensed clinician, evaluate clients and make arrangements for voluntary or involuntary admission to psychiatric facilities for treatment. Serve as liaison and consultant to schools, organizations, parents, children, etc. on issues concerning clients and may serve on committees or boards. Provide mental‑health treatment services in schools and other community settings to emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children with the goal of helping them achieve higher functioning in interpersonal relations and academic performance. Maintain cooperative professional relationships with local community agencies significant to the continuum of care for clients. Conduct outreach and community‑based service provision. Requirements Training and Experience Pre‑Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree from an accredited college or university in marriage, family, and child counseling, marital and family therapy, couple and family therapy, psychology, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or counseling with an emphasis in either marriage, family, and child counseling or marriage and family therapy. Pre‑Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor: Master’s or Doctorate’s degree in counseling or psychotherapy, as defined by the State of California Business and Professions Code, from an accredited institution qualifying the holder for registration as an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor with the State of California. License Pre‑Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: Must obtain a valid Marriage & Family Therapist Intern registration number within 30 days of appointment and full licensure as a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist within six years. Pre‑Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor: Must possess a valid Associate Professional Clinical Counselor registration number and obtain full licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor within six years. Valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions. Physical Class II – Light: Light administrative and clerical duties with occasional light lifting (≤10 lbs) and some bending, stooping, or squatting; considerable ambulation may be required.
