Lead Server

Position Summary

The Lead Server is responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while serving as a floor leader during service. This role requires extensive wine knowledge, strong hospitality skills, and the ability to lead, coach, and motivate the service team. The Lead Server sets the standard for professionalism, ensures smooth daily operations, and supports management in maintaining service excellence, sales goals, and team accountability.

Key Responsibilities

Guest Service & Hospitality

• Provide warm, knowledgeable, and attentive service to all guests.
• Guide guests through wine selections, offering pairing recommendations and educational insights.
• Anticipate guest needs and resolve concerns professionally and efficiently.
• Maintain a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the wine bar’s standards and culture.
• Build relationships with regular guests and enhance guest loyalty.

Wine Knowledge & Beverage Expertise

• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of wine regions, varietals, production methods, and tasting profiles.
• Recommend wines based on guest preferences, food pairings, and budget considerations.
• Educate team members on wine offerings, new selections, and menu updates.
• Assist with wine tastings, staff training sessions, and promotional events.
• Stay current on industry trends and emerging wine regions.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead by example and maintain the highest standards of service and professionalism.
• Act as the primary point of contact for service staff during shifts.
• Train, coach, and mentor new and existing team members.
• Monitor service quality and provide constructive feedback to staff.
• Foster teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
• Assist management in implementing service standards and operational procedures.

Operations

• Coordinate service flow to ensure efficient and seamless guest experiences.
• Support opening, closing, and side work procedures.
• Monitor table sections and staff performance throughout service.
• Assist with inventory counts, wine organization, and product management as needed.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and alcohol service regulations.
• Communicate effectively with kitchen, bar, and management teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of serving experience, preferably in a wine-focused restaurant, wine bar, or fine dining environment.
• Previous leadership, supervisory, or trainer experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of wine, including regions, varietals, and food pairings.
• Wine certifications (WSET, Court of Master Sommeliers, or equivalent) are preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate plus tips, based on experience and qualifications.
