Where Your Career is a Force for Good!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
This dynamic Philanthropy Director will identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward HNW in dividual donors and prospects from a Division perspective, with a primary focus on building new donor relationships and opening new philanthropic markets. Provide significant divisional support and expand donor financial support of the American Red Cross by developing a new pipeline of transformational individual gifts. Grow an assigned portfolio of donors, sponsors, and prospects to meet monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue goals exceeding $5,000,000, with an emphasis on seven‑figure and multi‑year giving. Assist donors in creating meaning and legacy through impactful philanthropy in support of the American Red Cross mission. Provide support, development, and leadership guidance to volunteers and senior stakeholders engaged in high‑level fundraising efforts.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD
This leader will design and implement Division‑level fundraising strategies focused on securing large, transformational gifts from high‑net‑worth individuals. This includes building a new donor pipeline rather than managing a fully established portfolio. Manage and develop complex individual, corporate, and/or foundation relationships, including seven‑figure gift opportunities that may cross regional or divisional boundaries.
Analyze donor, prospect, and market intelligence to identify new high‑capacity individuals and philanthropic communities.
Make strategic decisions regarding which individuals, families, or entities to prioritize, with a focus on donor segments where the organization currently has limited penetration.
Lead Division fundraising growth initiatives by expanding capacity to identify, cultivate, and solicit high‑net‑worth donors.
Provide education, technical expertise, and programmatic insight to support innovative, relationship‑driven fundraising strategies.
Personally engage in the solicitation of funds from high‑level contributors. Maintain responsibility for a high‑value portfolio with a revenue target of $5,000,000+, recognizing that early success includes pipeline development, relationship building, and access creation.
Provide guidance and thought leadership to development staff and key volunteers, serving as a subject‑matter expert in NNW individual philanthropy and transformational giving.
Travel extensively within the Division to support donor engagement and relationship‑building.
Will drive a vehicle to donor meetings and other business locations; responsible for providing own transportation for business purposes.
Scope:
Senior individual contributor and acknowledged expert within the organization and the broader philanthropic community. May develop new solutions and approaches for complex, high‑impact fundraising initiatives. Regularly interfaces with executive leadership, senior volunteers, and board members.
The position is fully remote . The candidate must reside within the Northeast Division , with a strong preference for individuals living in or deeply familiar in Connecticut, New York, and Northern New Jersey. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance .
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related discipline required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive fundraising and/or sales experience within large, complex organizations
Demonstrated success soliciting and stewarding large individual gifts, including seven‑figure and transformational gifts
Proven experience building new donor relationships and pipelines, rather than solely managing inherited portfolios
Extensive knowledge of high‑net‑worth individual fundraising strategies, long‑cycle cultivation, and donor stewardship
Experience operating effectively in relationship‑driven, high‑wealth markets, preferably within the Northeast
Track record of working collaboratively with executive leadership, board members, and senior volunteers
Strong understanding of fundraising operations, prospect research, and CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce)
Ability to function as a senior individual contributor with high autonomy and accountability
Willingness and ability to travel regularly within the Division (25–40%)
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Skills & Abilities:
Exceptional organizational, analytical, presentation, and communication skills (interpersonal, oral, and written). Strong relationship‑building skills with the ability to engage high‑net‑worth individuals as peers and partners. Proven ability to operate independently with high initiative and persistence. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage ambiguity and meet deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Working knowledge of fundraising database systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce). Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior leadership. A current, valid driver’s license and good driving record are required.
Travel:
25–40% Divisional business travel will be required to support donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods. May include sitting for long periods, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging or time‑sensitive conditions.
This job will be posted for a minimum of five days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded.
The salary range for this position is $163,000–$200,000 per year , plus incentive compensation.
