Facility Director - CryoEM & Nanoimaging Facility - Assistant Research Professor Position Status: Full Time Posting Number: 26FA0562 Posting Open Date: 05/05/2026 Salary Details $93,588 - $117,000 Benefits Medical, prescription drug, and dental coverage Paid vacation, holidays, and various leave programs Competitive retirement benefits, including defined contribution plans and voluntary tax-deferred savings options Employee and dependent educational benefits Overview The Rutgers CryoEM & Nanoimaging Facility (RCNF) is a regional core facility providing access to techniques such as single-particle analysis, cryo-electron tomography, cryo-focused ion beam micromachining, cryo-scanning electron microscopy, correlative light and electron microscopy studies, and microelectron diffraction. The RCNF supports intramural, academic, and industrial researchers and is a pillar of Rutgers’ excellence in structural and cellular biology. Responsibilities Supervise and manage facility staff and oversee instruments, including the flagship "Krios" cryo-transmission electron microscope and other electron microscopes. Disseminate new or cutting‑edge techniques among Rutgers scientists; lead shared instrumentation grants; consult and advise users on experimental design. Skillfully carry out nanoimaging experiments; manage day‑to‑day operations of the RCNF. Communicate proactively with the faculty advisory committee, instrument/project advisory committees, and key users. Report to the Rutgers‑New Brunswick Office for Research. Qualifications Doctoral degree in a related field. At least 5 years’ experience in cryo‑electron microscopy. Prior peer‑reviewed publication in the field of cryo‑electron microscopy. Experience supervising or mentoring other scientists. Ability to perform all experimental techniques required to use an electron microscope independently, including advanced techniques. Experience with high‑performance computing, data management, and shell scripting. Expertise in two or more of: cryo‑electron tomography, specialized grid preparation, ion microscopy, atomic‑resolution reconstruction, or correlative light/electron microscopies. Experience with electron microscope service and repair desirable. Preferred Qualifications Familiarity with laboratory equipment: transmission electron microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, focused ion beam microscopes, optical microscopes, plunge‑freezers, high‑pressure freezers, glow dischargers, electron beam deposition instruments, centrifuges, and incubators. Physical Demands and Work Environment Must have good eyesight and sufficient manual dexterity to manipulate small, fragile electron microscopy grids under liquid nitrogen. The work will be conducted indoors in an office-type environment (50%) and a chemical/biological laboratory environment (50%).
