Human Resources Associate

Classified-Exempt Position Executive/Charleston HQ. Under general supervision of the Employment Services Manager, this position performs administrative tasks and duties by providing support services for DNR Human Resources at the Human Resources Generalist level. Responsibilities Serve as the hourly payroll coordinator and be responsible for coordinating and processing payroll for all DNR hourly employees via the wvOASIS payroll system, including verifying timesheets, calculating wages, verifying hourly rates, tips, differential pay, and completing required forms. Maintain employee accounts by processing name and address changes, wage increases, activations, terminations, tax changes, and maintaining personnel files. Advise and train contacts across DNR facilities on hourly payroll and personnel matters, accurate timekeeping, and proper completion of forms. Provide and update paper timesheets via email to facilities with hourly employees, and submit required paperwork through HRM workflow. Assist with employment and wage verification of temporary employees. Serve as a backup for personnel transactions for full‑time employees, answer phones, respond to inquiries, and direct calls. Manage personal and confidential data, meet strict deadlines, and maintain high accuracy and attention to detail. Collaborate with co‑workers, management, and contacts such as the Auditor’s Office, Treasury, etc. Work extended hours upon short notice and perform limited overnight travel for training purposes if required. Operate standard office equipment including PC, calculator, copier, printer, fax, etc. Maintain regular attendance. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Related experience in human resources, payroll, bookkeeping, or accounting may be substituted for the required education at the rate of one year of experience for every thirty semester hours of education. A valid driver’s license may be required. Preference Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in payroll, wvOASIS HRM and UKG, Google, Word, and Excel.
