Pre-Certification Coordinator I (Remote) - Neurology

Overview Position: Scheduling Hours 40. Performs professional services to ensure medical/surgical and diagnostic/ancillary services are accomplished efficiently and that reimbursement is maximized through interaction with third‑party payers. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Initiates and facilitates the pre‑determination process. Contacts appropriate insurance companies for benefit verification and pre‑certification of surgical and nonsurgical procedures; notifies financial counselor for pre‑payment of uncoded services. Provides all documentation required during the pre‑certification process to insurance companies. Maintains daily surgery/procedure schedule for department faculty; communicates with physicians and their assistants regarding schedules. Maintains a written log of all pre‑certifications in process; notifies hospital utilization/billing of pre‑certifications. Documents when pre‑certification is received from insurance companies. Working Conditions Normal working environment in a patient care setting. Typically sitting at a desk with repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movement. Office equipment usage. Qualifications Required Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Work Experience: Medical office setting (2 years). Certifications/Professional Licenses: No specific certification/licensure required. Driver's License: Not required. Preferred Qualifications Education: Associate degree. Certifications/Professional Licenses: Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC; Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) – AHIMA. Work Experience: No additional requirements beyond listed. Skills: Communication, external and internal customers, insurance, interpersonal communication, managed care, medical coding, organizing, third‑party payers.
