Sr. Director Engineering, Solutions Systems (HVAC) (Iowa)

Daikin Applied is seeking a Sr. Director Engineering, Solutions Systems in Plymouth, MN (Hybrid) to lead the technical vision, architecture, and execution of integrated HVAC and datacenter solutions.

Responsibilities

• Build solutions and datacenter technology strategy and roadmap, working with business teams in the US and globally to set product strategy across DAA product families and define a multi‑year technology roadmap.
• Drive the architecture of reusable, modular platforms for use across multiple global product lines, establishing standards for product design, quality, configuration management, remote updates, and edge‑to‑cloud data models.
• Lead design of solutions products that improve capabilities and performance of customer systems while reducing total cost of operations.
• Ensure seamless integration of building management products to provide differentiated solutions for our customers.
• Drive compliance for products, coordinate across groups to meet all required industry standards and partner with digital organization to institutionalize cybersecurity‑by‑design and lead vulnerability response processes.
• Build and scale automated test assets and field testing of new and updated products, using fleet telemetry and service data to identify product improvements and drive continuous improvement to reduce install and commissioning time.
• Define, implement, and continuously improve engineering processes, systems, and tools that enable consistent delivery of solutions offerings at scale, including development of new technologies for future product roadmaps.
• Drive the strategic vision and organizational design, lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing solutions development organization, fostering innovation and continuous improvement.
• Manage project execution from requirements through release and sustaining, ensuring on‑time delivery of new and updated products while meeting cost/value objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related field.
• 10+ years in complex systems engineering with 5+ years leading teams.
• Experience developing products utilizing all types of software from embedded through cloud‑based applications.
• Experience using agile development methods and modern project/tool chains.
• Experience integrating products using standard communications protocols.
• Experience with commercial HVAC and/or datacenter building systems products is preferred.
• Track record of building and scaling cross‑functional teams, partnering with product management, business teams, quality, manufacturing, and service.
• Experience working with internal groups to understand and follow company standards.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to translate market needs into practical, differentiated, manufacturable, and serviceable solutions.
• Experience managing teams and projects to support multiple business groups and multiple funding sources.
• Demonstrated strong communication skills that span from direct reports to senior leadership.
• Proven ability to implement and improve development processes, systems, and toolchains that deliver product offerings reliably and repeatably.
• Evidence of delivering products to market with measurable gains in energy efficiency, reliability, commissioning simplicity, and service outcomes.
• Proficiency in balancing performance, BOM, schedule, and risk.

• Master’s degree in computer engineering or related technical field.

• Typical annual base salary ranges from $162,500 to $285,800 plus a 30% bonus in Minnesota (pay range shown applies to all positions in the job grade for which this position falls).
