Food Service Manager

Overview Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is seeking a Food Service Manager to manage all aspects of the Food Service Department, including staff, sales, margin, and labor. You will assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor. You will adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Food Service Department. Benefits Weekly pay Scheduling flexibility Paid parental leave Team member discount Career growth opportunities Essential Duties & Responsibilities Prepares the weekly sales and labor projections for the food service department to maximize sales and profits; ensures department operations stay within the labor percent allowed. Monitors and controls costs and expenses; maintains proper ordering and inventory control, proper weighing procedures, shrink control, and ad displays. Manages Food Service Department staff including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and conducting performance reviews; ensures staff is trained on policies and procedures. Oversees shift operations including writing or approving Department work schedules. Ensures weekly flyer ads are in stock and ready for sale; ensures product for upcoming ads is ordered, in stock, and available for processing. Stocks food service cases; presents product, facing, filling, and organization as per Food Service Department schematics; ensures tag and pricing accuracy. Maintains cleanliness of food service aisles, storage area, and work area for safety; cleans shelves and products, keeps floors dry, and removes hazards. Responds to customer inquiries and assists with purchases and product selection while working the food service counter; sells and cross-sells products. Receives, inspects, and logs products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality. Monitors rotation of all food service products, paying attention to expired stock and discarding outdated items. Balances the food service general ledger and financial statements; responsible for department margins. Oversees pre-inventory preparation; manages back stock and ensures tags match products. Manages department inventory to prevent out-of-stocks and over-stocks. Uses knowledge of scales, weights, and tares to weigh and label products; packages and wraps products and follows dating procedures. Monitors proper temperatures during production of deli, cheese, and bakery items. Maintains high product knowledge and proper product preparation. Walks the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance at all times. Other duties as assigned. Education And Experience High school diploma or equivalency degree. Minimum of 4 years professional experience. Preferred 3–5 years grocery retail experience in Food Service department processes and procedures. Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times. Ability to adapt to a high-volume retail environment and work in a cross-functional team. Ability to take initiative when problems arise and adapt in various situations. Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Ability to multitask and maintain strong organizational skills. Ability to lead, support, and contribute to team goals. Ability to work varied hours/days as required by business needs. Familiarity with Health Department guidelines and regulations for a grocery retail environment. Advanced knowledge of math, weights, and measures. Ability to analyze and interpret company financial statements and results. Experience working with food service equipment such as knives, slicers, scales, and ovens. Ability to follow and direct others to follow recipes, specs, and schematics. Some ventilation and exhaust fans are present. Compensation The pay range for this position is $20.50 - $30.05 per hour. This range represents the minimum and maximum base pay for the position and is determined by market data, qualifications, responsibilities, and internal roles. Specific pay rates will be within this range and based on your experience, qualifications, and skills. Compensation may include incentive bonus opportunities that vary based on individual and company performance. Details will be discussed during the hiring process.
