About the Role:

The Adapted EC Teacher - Elementary plays a critical role in delivering specialized educational instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of elementary students with disabilities. This position focuses on creating and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that promote academic growth, social development, and independence. The teacher collaborates closely with families, support staff, and general education teachers to ensure a cohesive and inclusive learning environment. Through ongoing assessment and adaptation of teaching strategies, the role aims to maximize each student's potential and foster a positive, supportive classroom culture. Ultimately, the Adapted EC Teacher is dedicated to empowering students with exceptionalities to achieve meaningful educational outcomes and lifelong skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
• Valid state exceptional children teaching certification/license.
• Demonstrated knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Experience working with elementary-aged students with diverse disabilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Education or related discipline.
• Experience with assistive technology and adaptive instructional tools.
• Training in behavior management techniques and positive behavioral interventions.
• Familiarity with Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks and data-driven instruction.

Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs and goals.
• Deliver specialized instruction in core academic subjects using adapted curricula and evidence-based teaching methods.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including speech therapists, occupational therapists, counselors, and general education teachers to support student progress.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress, and communicate regularly with parents and guardians.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and social interaction.

Skills:

Exceptional Children knowledge is applied daily to design and deliver instruction that meets the individualized needs of students with disabilities, ensuring compliance with legal and educational standards. Effective communication skills are essential for collaborating with families, colleagues, and support staff to create a unified approach to student development. Adaptability and problem-solving skills enable the teacher to modify lesson plans and strategies based on ongoing assessments and student responses. Preferred skills such as knowledge of assistive technology and behavior management enhance the teacher’s ability to support diverse learners and address challenges proactively.
