Imaging Manager
Sage Veterinary Management
The Imaging Manager , reporting to the hospital manager, is responsible for the operational leadership, performance, and quality of diagnostic imaging services at their assigned Sage Veterinary Imaging practice site. This role oversees imaging operations, supervises the local imaging technical team, partners closely with veterinarians and radiologists, and ensures efficient patient throughput while maintaining exceptional standards of patient care and imaging quality.
The Imaging Manager serves as a key operational partner to the Hospital Manager, Practice Site DVM(s), Imaging Director, and Operations leadership. In addition to managing day-to-day imaging operations, this individual is responsible for technical staff development, imaging quality assurance, procedural standardization, equipment oversight, and supporting business development initiatives that drive continued growth of the practice.
This position has primary responsibility for driving patient flow and imaging operations within the assigned practice site. The Imaging Manager leads the efficient daily clinical operation of the imaging department to achieve targeted procedural volumes while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, diagnostic quality, and client service. The role also supports referral growth through relationship development with referring veterinarians, participation in educational events, community outreach, and other business development initiatives in partnership with the broader Sage Veterinary Imaging team.
Because advanced diagnostic imaging frequently requires anesthesia, the Imaging Manager must be capable of safely performing anesthesia procedures while ensuring exceptional patient care and diagnostic quality. Ensuring adherence to established protocols, mentoring, and fostering a culture of safety and clinical excellence that supports world-class imaging services.

Key Responsibilities
Imaging Operations
- Lead the daily operation of imaging services, ensuring safe, efficient, and timely patient flow.
- Organize, coordinate, and prioritize the daily schedule of imaging procedures to maximize efficiency while maintaining exceptional patient care.
- Ensure imaging studies are completed according to established clinical protocols and quality standards.
- Monitor patient throughput and proactively resolve operational bottlenecks.
- Coordinate imaging resources, personnel, and equipment to optimize workflow.
- Ensure radiologists receive complete, high-quality imaging studies, patient histories, and all supporting clinical information necessary for timely interpretation.
- Partner with veterinarians to determine when additional imaging procedures, including ultrasound or echocardiography, are appropriate.
- Ensure all imaging procedures meet Sage Veterinary Imaging quality standards before submission for interpretation.
Team Growth
- Provide coaching and supervision for the imaging technical team.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and retention of imaging technical staff.
- Partner with the hospital manager to develop, coordinate, and deliver onboarding, training, and ongoing competency development programs.
- Ensure all imaging personnel demonstrate competency in imaging procedures, patient handling, anesthesia, equipment operation, safety protocols, and organizational standards.
- Participate in quarterly performance reviews and ongoing performance coaching.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous learning, and operational excellence.
- Serve as the primary resource for technical questions, workflow issues, and operational problem-solving.
Imaging Quality & Clinical Support
- Ensure consistently high diagnostic image quality across all imaging modalities.
- Collaborate with radiologists and veterinarians to continuously improve imaging protocols and technical practices.
- Work with hospital manager, DVMs, and Operations to develop, implement, and maintain imaging Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor imaging quality metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards, imaging protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Partner with clinical leadership to identify opportunities for continuous quality improvement.
Equipment & Facility Oversight
- Oversee the daily operation, readiness, and maintenance of imaging equipment.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, equipment servicing, and repairs.
- Ensure imaging suites remain organized, safe, clean, and fully operational.
- Monitor imaging-related inventory and anticipate equipment and supply needs.
Business Development & Community Engagement
- Support practice growth through outreach to referring veterinary hospitals and strategic partners.
- Participate in visits with referring veterinarians and prospective referral partners.
- Assist in organizing continuing education programs, community events, and referral education initiatives.
- Conduct follow-up communication with referring veterinarians to strengthen relationships and improve service.
- Identify opportunities to improve the referral experience and increase utilization of Sage Veterinary Imaging services.
Operational Partnership
- Partner closely with the Hospital Manager to ensure efficient site operations.
- Collaborate with Practice Site DVMs, Imaging Director, Hospital Manager, and Operations leadership to achieve operational goals.
- Contribute to KPI monitoring, workflow optimization, and operational improvement initiatives.
- Support implementation of organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, and new imaging services.
- Participate in cross-site collaboration to promote consistency and operational excellence across all Sage Veterinary Imaging locations.
Clinical & Technical Responsibilities
When required, the Imaging Manager actively participates in patient care by:
- Performing advanced diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Performing anesthesia and providing direct patient care throughout imaging procedures.
- Assisting with patient preparation, positioning, and recovery.
- Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Supporting laboratory and technical procedures within scope of practice.
- Maintaining controlled substance documentation.
- Monitoring imaging-related inventory and ensuring equipment readiness.
Other Duties
- Participate in Sage Veterinary Imaging educational initiatives.
- Contribute to technician education, mentorship, and competency development programs.
- Travel periodically to support other practice locations, training initiatives, or organizational projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Licensed or Registered Veterinary Technician (or equivalent credential where applicable).
- Minimum three (3) years of veterinary medicine experience.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in advanced diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Demonstrated proficiency in veterinary anesthesia, or the ability to successfully train to proficiency.
- Strong understanding of CT, MRI, radiography, ultrasound, and other advanced imaging modalities.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead teams while maintaining a collaborative, service-oriented approach.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.

- Experience in specialty referral or advanced diagnostic imaging practice.
- Experience managing advanced imaging equipment.
- Experience developing SOPs, technical training programs, and competency assessments.
