Operates semi-automatic welding equipment to join metal parts using the gas metal arc welding process. Cleans and repairs welds with grinders, plasma gougers, other equipment, and methods common to the welding trade.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFabricate components by following requirements; using equipment to clean, prepare, burn, and weld pieces, utilizing power and hand tools as necessaryRead specifications, blueprints and/or sketches to repair or modify metal partsVerify welding results by inspecting welds; Check angles and gap allowances using micrometers and calipers.Maintain accurate and timely documentation by completing necessary records (job order, router tracking)Maintain safe work environment by following procedures, complying with legal and company regulationsSafely operate electric cranes to transport workpieces (pipe) and metal componentsNote: The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities. Employees are required to follow appropriate supervisory direction and perform other related duties as required.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)At least 1 year of Welding and Fabrication experience; Ideal Group will certify in AWS D1.1 Structural Steel WeldingPossess basic knowledge of computer systems and equipment maintenanceMust be able to communicate effectively with leadership and teammatesMust have the ability to read/write and understand both verbal and written work instructions in English, work orders and customer specificationsBasic math and measurement skills required (addition, subtraction, decimal and fraction conversions); able to accurately read a tape measureMust be at least 18 years of ageMust have reliable transportationMust have authorization to work in the United StatesMinimum of High School Diploma or equivalent preferredPhysical Demands and Work EnvironmentAble to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as neededAble to stand (85%); walk (10%); stoop, kneel, bend or crouch (5%), as requiredFrequent twisting, horizontal reaching, upper extremity push/pull, bendingAble to wear required PPE; ear plugs, safety glasses, steel-toed boots and welding gearMost of the year temperatures inside the plant will match or exceed the outdoor conditions as bay doors remain openWeld smoke and metal-cutting machine filtration systems minimize smoke but do not eliminate it.
