HR Benefits Specialist

Summary The Benefits Specialist supports the City's health, wellbeing, and retirement programs through employee and retiree-facing support, plan administration, compliance coordination, and vendor management. This role ensures employees have a clear and positive experience navigating their benefits. Pay Range $51,563.20 - 65,665.60 (Depending on qualifications and experience) Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned Serve as the primary point of contact for employee and retiree related questions as it pertains to health, wellbeing, and retirement benefits. Guide employees through eligibility, enrollment, qualifying life events, and general benefits navigation. Partner with carriers and vendors to resolve coverage issues and escalated employee concerns. Support annual open enrollment, including communications, presentations, scheduling, employee assistance, and documentation. Support the creation and presentation of and distribute benefits communications such as FAQs, reminders, newsletters, and informational materials. Partner with team members to support enrollment life cycle including eligibility reviews, dependent verification, enrollment accuracy checks and more. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D 2-3 years of related experience Intermediate experience with MS Office Ability to comfortably lead employee presentations and meetings Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred Qualifications Education/ Experience 3+ years of direct experience in benefits administration, human resources, or customer support preferred Advanced level experience in MS Office Direct experience developing and/or leading group presentations, meetings or events- both instructor-led and virtual Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Intermediate knowledge of business practices and procedures Consistent attention to detail and ability to proactively seek opportunities for process improvements Strong problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy Ability to present information in an organized, logical manner and ensure execution as expected for all core functions Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment Ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to employees' personal health information Licenses and Certifications Valid Class C Texas driver's license Physical Requirements / Work Environment The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
