Senior Human Resources Generalist

Project Renewal is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist to provide comprehensive HR support across the employee lifecycle from our New York, NY hybrid work environment. The role requires 2-3 days on-site per week at designated sites, with a compensation range of USD 70,000-80,000 per year. A bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field and at least three years of HR experience are required. Responsibilities Acts as the HR partner for a portfolio of sites and programs, aligning people practices with organizational growth and PRI priorities. Collaborates with the HR supervisor and leadership to translate HR strategies into actions that support agency goals and workforce needs. Maintains on-site presence of 2-3 days per week to assist leaders and staff and enhance HR visibility. Partners with site leadership to improve people management practices and the overall employee experience. Evaluates workforce trends and communicates insights and recommendations to HR leadership. Oversees employee relations across assigned sites, handling complaints, conflicts, performance issues, and policy violations. Conducts investigations and coordinates with HR leadership and supervisors on complex or high risk matters. Advises managers on corrective action, performance improvement plans, terminations, documentation, and performance management. Proactively identifies recurring issues and ensures consistent application of HR standards. Supports and monitors performance management processes to ensure follow through. Collaborates with hiring managers to drive recruitment and staffing in line with organizational priorities. Guides recruitment processes and candidate evaluation. Supports onboarding, background checks, and completion of new hire documentation. Delivers new employee orientation on a rotating schedule. Supports staffing changes including promotions, transfers, and separations. Maintains accurate HRIS data for all lifecycle changes and performs routine data quality audits to ensure integrity. Ensures HR data underpins reporting, compliance, and informed decision making. Supports leave administration, including FMLA, PFL, disability, workers' compensation, and other leaves. Ensures compliance with employment laws, internal policies, and reporting requirements. Responds to employee HR inquiries and escalates trends, risks, or systemic issues as appropriate. Supports employee engagement, training and development initiatives aligned with agency priorities. Collaborates with the HR supervisor and leadership on HR initiatives, improvements, and projects. Administers tuition reimbursement and the employee referral program. Provides backup and cross-team support as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements Three to six years of progressive HR experience with demonstrated responsibility in employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, HR operations, and policy application. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred. Experience supporting multiple sites, programs, or departments preferred.ai Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and HR best practices. Experience in social services, healthcare, housing, nonprofit, or other mission driven environments preferred; familiarity with DHS, OMH, OASAS, and FQHCs a plus. SHRM-CP or PHR certification preferred, not required.
