Job Overview This work unit manages Cheyenne Mountain State Park in accordance with Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks and Wildlife policy. The unit provides recreational and educational opportunities, maintains visitor facilities, park infrastructure, and natural resources, and supports visitor services, maintenance, natural resource protection, education, administrative functions, law enforcement, inter‑agency cooperation, and statewide programs. Responsibilities Maintain a safe and pleasant environment for recreation by inspecting and maintaining facilities, equipment, systems, grounds, and infrastructure. Manage the inspection and maintenance of trails, forestry resources, invasive weed projects, and archery range infrastructure. Supervise temporary maintenance personnel and volunteers, prepare reports, coordinate purchases, and operate within state fiscal guidelines. Acquire and maintain required certifications, use GIS, and complete regular reports to park management and the public. Trails Management Plan, design, and execute trail maintenance tasks, resolve related problems, and manage budgets for materials, tools, and equipment. Prepare field work plans and reports, and coordinate with Colorado Parks and Wildlife Development staff, contractors, SE Region Trails Coordinator, and vendors. Forestry and Invasive Weed Projects Implement the park’s forest management plan, supervise forestry crews and volunteers, and remove hazard trees and trees blocking trail access. Use chainsaws, skid steers, and chipper as required. Seek grants and funding opportunities to support forestry projects and manage grants appropriately. Archery Range Infrastructure & Facility Maintenance Maintain target ranges, targets, toilets, signage, and boundary fencing. Operate and repair equipment such as tractors, tractors implements, dump trucks, snow plows, mowers, landscaping tools, and other power tools. Perform construction, repair, and maintenance tasks on building and facility infrastructure. Supervision of Temporary Employees & Volunteers Interview, hire, train, supervise, develop work plans, schedule, motivate, and resolve conflicts for temporary employees and volunteers. Recommend corrective or disciplinary action when necessary. Administration Prepare records and reports for park backcountry programs, including work plans, progress reports, employee paperwork, purchase paperwork, funding requests, periodic volunteer program reports, usage reports, bid requests, and hours. Training & Certifications Attend trade related trainings, self‑educate, and obtain required certifications such as Small Water, Small Wastewater, Dept. of Ag., Herbicide and Pesticide, Trail Certifications, Sawyer Certifications, Qualified Supervisor with various endorsements, and Class A CDL as needed. Other Duties as Assigned Perform any additional duties assigned by management. Minimum Qualifications At least four years of work experience in construction, farming, ranching, resource management, landscaping, facility management, or closely related fields, including electrical, plumbing or carpentry experience. Must adequately demonstrate experience as it pertains to the duties of this job description on your application. Preferred Qualifications Current or former State experience relevant to this position. Basic understanding of GIS. Trail maintenance experience. Experience in forestry including fire mitigation and chainsaw handling. Knowledge of noxious weeds and their treatment. Experience with archery range management and maintenance. Experience supervising, training and working with volunteers. Experience operating heavy equipment such as backhoes or skid steers. Required Competencies Organizational and time management skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Strong multi‑tasking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google suite. Conditions of Employment State of Colorado residency is required at the time of application. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Colorado driver's license if operating a State vehicle. Driving background check required. Must comply with fleet driving requirements. May be required to work weekends/holidays and after‑hour shifts. May handle pesticides and herbicides. Travel may be required, including overnight stays. Must be capable of operating boats, OHV, golf carts, and various maintenance equipment.
