Data Center Technician Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Data Center Technician to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining data center cleanliness and organization;
- Managing site growth by keeping the data center organized;
- Managing incoming/outgoing shipments;
- Being on-site during normal business hours;
- Supporting cabinet installation and decommission as needed;
- Ability to determine the best course of action based on extremely complex issues;
- Formulate, affect, interpret, or implement policies and procedures;
- Friendly presence and helpful attitude; good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others;
- Develop and maintain automation, monitoring, and processes to assure operational uptime and efficiency;
- Perform data and power cable management;
- Demonstrate critical thinking ability;
- Ability to quickly identify the causes of technical problems and provide resolution;
- Manage and execute multiple support projects;
- Responsibilities;
- Provide technical support for technical issues related to the network, OS (Android, iOS, Linux, MacOS), virtualization, and storage.
Requirements:
- 6-months experience handling/maintaining any technical equipment or machinery;
- Flexibility to work non-business hours (shifts) that may include weekends and/or holidays;
- Unix/Linux skills (preferred);
- xperience supporting SAN or NAS technologies (preferred);
- Understanding of cabling and telecommunications standards including IEEE/ANSI/TIA/EIA (strongly preferred);
- Experience with networking protocols;
- Completion of the online Google IT Support Professional Certificate program;
- Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment;
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating system and computer/server hardware;
- Must pass a skill-assessment and performance review after 90 days;
- Ability to kneel, crawl, reach above shoulder height and lift 50lbs repeatedly throughout shift;
- Ability to communicate with team members clearly;
- Experience working with Linux and Windows at the command line;
- Basic programming knowledge;
- Experience working in a large data center (100+ servers) is helpful.
