ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN (Registered Nurse) Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN (Registered Nurse) to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a patient advocate while providing education and support to patients and their families;
- Assisting physicians in performing procedures;
- Observe and record patient vital signs;
- Respond to life-saving situations, using nursing standards and protocols for treatment;
- Ensure that ventilators, monitors and other types of medical equipment function properly;
- Order diagnostic tests and collaborate with fellow members of the critical care team;
- Serves as the primary coordinator of all disciplines for well coordinated patient care;
- Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders;
- Assesses and coordinates patient’s discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team;
- Implements and monitors patient care plans. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate;
- May assign and direct the work of lower level registered nurses and nursing assistants;
- Multiple shifts available;
- Provide nursing care treatment and educational services;
- The RN, ICU, will independently develop and implement nursing care plans for patients;
- May serve as a charge nurse on an assigned shift, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Assess, monitor, document and report progress of patient’s health and condition using required documents, reports and established timelines;
- Care for the Intensive Care Unit patient with a short or long length of stay in a fast pace environment;
- Cooperatively utilize varied solutions to educate and promote the health and independence of the patient;
- Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care;
- Candidates must have successfully completed an accredite RN program;
- Must have BLS and ACLS certifications from American Heart Association approved courses;
- Candidates with unit specific certifications preferred;
- Must have an RN license in the State of Virginia, COMPACT nursing state, or have the ability to obtain one;
- Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience working in an Acute Care hospital.
