Controls Technician Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Controls Technician to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate knowledge of plant and process safety rules, safe operating methods, and good housekeeping standards;
- Respond to any equipment downtime issues in the plant and establish any required outside resources to assist in resolving issues quickly;
- Train and develop the plant electricians to increase their ability to understand and troubleshoot controls related issues in the plant;
- Debug and make PLC/Robot/HMI program changes to improve existing automated process;
- Communicate actions taken to repair the machine to Operator and/or Manager;
- Recommend and assist in the selection of suppliers for capital equipment;
- Install and wire automation equipment based on electrical design schematics;
- Communicate effectively with team members, corporate engineering, vendors, and internal customers;
- Ensure the completion dates for all project assignments are met;
- Manage small equipment improvement projects in the plant;
- Install, repair, upgrade and maintain electrical/electronic equipment used in the manufacturing process.
Requirements:
- Significant experience with DDC (direct digital control) systems, control theory, HVAC equipment and Digital Multi-Meter testing tools;
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project locations in the Albany area;
- Ability to read mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings;
- High level of PLC/Robot troubleshooting (programming experience a plus) with strong electrical and mechanical aptitude;
- Ability to troubleshoot and modify Allen Bradley and Siemens PLCs;
- Strong team work capabilities, operating in a multi-function environment to collectively improve operations and resolve related issues;
- Experience with programming and troubleshooting robots such as ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, Motoman/Yaskawa, and/or Panasonic;
- Hands-on approach to engineering;
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills by undergoing extensive interview process;
- Proficient in Microsoft based computer systems;
- Experience with Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, RSLogix 500, and FactoryTalk View development software;
- 3 – 5 years industrial controls experience;
- Ability to troubleshoot, replace, and modify HMIs and VFDs;
- Physical ability to climb and work at elevations;
- A working knowledge of communication networks (Ethernet, Profinet, Profibus).
