Welding Engineer Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Welding Engineer to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute in-house projects for implementing new engineering changes that modify assembly processes;
- Participation in the Layered Process Audit schedule;
- Process monitoring using statistical methods;
- Liaise with vendors regarding software / hardware updates and troubleshooting systems;
- Maintain welding systems to ensure manufacturing activities are in within specifications and interpret and apply specifications for manufacturability;
- Selection of welding methods, development of parameters, demonstration on mockups, and qualifications;
- Implement process improvements with regards to Mig Welding systems using all available current welding technologies;
- Completes other necessary duties as deemed appropriate and necessary;
- Participation in the Internal ISO/TS 16949 Audit schedule (applies only to certified ISO/TS 16949 internal auditors);
- Preparation of customer submittals to transmit information and plans, gain approvals, and authorize repairs to deviated components;
- Support maintenance activities in PM scheduling as well as training and developing maintenance technicians from a Mig welding perspective;
- Collects, tracks, and advises on downtime issues and implements short and long-term solutions to minimize downtime;
- Preparation of welding procedures, drawings, and electronic shop floor routing documents;
- Programming of CNC welding machines;
- Process efficiency studies to reduce span and cost.
Requirements:
- ABET Accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline required (weld, machine, NDT);
- Demonstrated problem solving skills;
- Self-motivated, showing initiative and creativity with minimal supervision;
- Preferred computer skills include CAD, Excel, and CNC programming;
- Will consider candidates at all career levels;
- Strong communication (written/verbal) and teamwork skills for interaction with both hourly and salary employees;
- Common programming knowledge of robotics and Weld controls for welding mild steel, hybrid and organic coated materials;
- Strong proficiency with weld control systems (Bosch DC Mid-Freq Inverters. Lincoln power supplies. Fanuc robots);
- Ability to work in a team-based lean-manufacturing environment;
- High skill set of Mig welding on mild steel and knowledgeable about aluminum welding;
- Full scope of knowledge in Mig and resistance spot welding systems;
- Willingness to travel for training;
- Strong familiarity with projection nut and stud welding.
