Accountant Job Description

Accountant I assists in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Being an Accountant I compiles financial data to aid more senior accountants in the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. Assists in analyzing current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses. Additionally, Accountant I requires a bachelor’s degree. May require eligibility to sit for CPA exam. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Accountant I works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work is closely managed. To be an Accountant I typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid California or Nevada drivers license or capable of obtaining one within thirty-days (30) of employment;
  • Executing ad-hoc reporting on assigned topics; adding accounting insight and acumen;
  • Managing the division’s CER process;
  • Prepare various journal entries, determine accruals, and reconcile intercompany balances on a monthly basis;
  • Implement and oversee accounting procedures for Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Management, Payroll, and Job Cost;
  • Journal entries for accruals;
  • Support the finance department in reporting needs by using defined reporting tools like Showcase and Hyperion Essbase;
  • Prepare account reconciliations for multiple legal entities;
  • AR: set up customers in the customer database, prepare invoice and send to the customers, post customer payments in the accounting system, and etc;
  • Responsible for generating and submitting Safe Pay reports to the bank for positive pay services;
  • Assist with billing process and month-end close tasks;
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as needed;
  • Inventory.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in an accounting related field or four-year degree in Accounting;
  • Accurate;
  • Strong Reconciliation experience and/or billing/collections experience a must;
  • Research/Forensic abilities;
  • Produce monthly management accounts and cash flow forecasts;
  • Ability to work longer hours during monthly close;
  • Professional appearance and demeanor;
  • Strong math and computer skills;
  • 1-2 years experience in Construction or Manufacturning prefered;
  • Expertise with accounting software i.e., Netsuite, Quickbooks;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in tax, accounting, or finance;
  • 3+ years’ experience of working on a Certified Public Accountant or Senior Accountant position;
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software like FreshBooks and QuickBooks;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
