Commercial Lines Underwriter Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Works to achieve growth objectives through the following;
- Evaluates individual agency results and recommends necessary actions;
- Reviews and comments on agency appointments and annually reviews existing agents;
- Assist in the training in commercial lines;
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed;
- Communicates with agents regarding all aspects of commercial lines including;
- Implements review actions;
- Monitors and reinforces the agency’s commitment to goals;
- Suggestions and changes in procedures, manuals and guidelines;
- Contributes to the underwriting/marketing efforts by obtaining and analyzing competitive products and programs;
- Assists the Underwriting Supervisor including;
- Engages in ongoing development and analysis of the agency plant and relevant action plans;
- Contributes to the profitability of the agency plant through the following;
- Reviews incoming correspondence, applications, and binders, to determine if underwriting guidelines and criteria are met;
- Approves risks.
Requirements:
- Must demonstrate a strong working knowledge of commercial line underwriting procedures and insurance form information;
- Proficient interpersonal relations and communication skills;
- Must be able to work independently with limited supervision;
- Minimum two (2) years’ underwriting experience in commercial lines underwriting;
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience;
- Sufficient typing and computer skills;
- Must demonstrate proficiency in all duties of a Commercial Underwriter I (see job description);
- Proficient reading, writing, and grammar skills;
- Demonstrated ability to analyze information;
- Proficient mathematical skills.
