Construction Inspector Job Description Template
Our company is looking for a Construction Inspector to join our team.
Responsibilities:
- Trains and/or mentors less experienced staff in company procedures, standards and software;
- Monitors the progress of construction activities ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met;
- Inspects and reviews projects during construction to monitor conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations;
- Interpret plans, specifications and contract documents to verify contract compliance;
- Perform sampling and testing of concrete in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures;
- Prepare a timesheet daily which records all hours worked, along with vacation, holidays, and sick leave taken;
- Manages deadlines, prioritizes assignments, and prepares final documentation for closeout process;
- Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications;
- Reviews change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability;
- Ensure projects are built per plans and specifications;
- Troubleshoot field issues and report findings and recommendations to engineer or client;
- Inspects installation of construction feature, measures dimensions, and calculates quantities;
- Determines estimated cost of construction projects using take-off estimates;
- Act as the on-site liaison with client and community;
- Create daily reports to document all quantities, equipment and labor using Site Manager software.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of ODOT’s SITE MANAGER and MOBILE INSPECTOR system a plus;
- FieldBook / FieldManager Trained;
- High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of construction experience;
- 2 – 4 years construction Inspector required;
- Engineering degree preferred or able to acquire within a year;
- TxDOT and SiteManager experience preferred;
- Past experience with municipal construction is a plus;
- Must possess the physical ability to move around an active construction site;
- Ability to anticipate problems and master details;
- Extensive knowledge of Caltrans standard plans and specifications, construction manual, procedures, and LAPM;
- Knowledge of;
- Organized and detail oriented;
- Knowledge Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Caltrans procedures;
- Able to work outdoors for an extended period of time;
- Construction Inspector needed with at least 5 years.
